Attack of the Ruthless Critic

I have a ruthless inner critic who preys on me.

He focuses on my skills and abilities.

When he sees the chance, he likes to attack others as well.

If I receive an email that is less than one sentence, he whispers, “Jerk.”

If I sense arrogance in the writer’s tone, internally he says, “Thanks Mr. Know It All!”

If you sell to me aggressively this critic shouts, “Scum-sucking leech!”
(Can you tell I don’t like to be sold to aggressively?)

But could some of these responses be a sign that I need some rest?

Or maybe that I need to step away from the blogs for a while?

Maybe, just maybe, I need to point the finger at myself a little more and less at others.

Or even quit being so quick to judge.

Have you ever felt this way? Does your inner critic lash out at others? How do you prevent it?

it always comes down to ‘me’..not others. Doesn’t matter if my indignation is warranted..it’s always about what i do with what happens.

To me, it just sounds like you’re tired, Jim. When you’re well-rested, and able to stop and smell the roses during your day, you’re more able to withstand the flurries of the world. At least, that’s my feeling.

My inner critic pops up most when I’m stressed or overly tired. It’s not pretty!

Yes I have felt this way. But I think for me (at least at this point) it’s more my inner toddler-who-needs-a-nap. :)

Also, I can’t decide if that lion is cute or scary. I kinda want to pet him…then I see his teeth.

Sleepy Chrystal is a cranky Chrystal right? I understand that! Ha. I don’t think I would pet that lion myself :)

YES! Two things you don’t mess with – my food and my sleep. :)

Mine is particularly bad when I’m driving. :-p But when my inner critic pipes up, I’m learning to remind myself that I don’t know everything that is going on in that person’s life when they do/say/write something that annoys me. They need grace extended to them just as much as I do.

Absolutely. Makes great sense there. Couldn’t agree more. It’s easy to let ‘er rip isn’t it!
