When Everything Sucks

Every so often I wake up and think everything sucks.

I don’t like anyone.

Or anything.

Especially me.

I suck as a dad.

I suck as a husband.

I suck as an employee.

I suck as a writer.

But then I talk to you.

And you encourage me.

You tell me I am doing well.

I find strength through your support.

And I feel better.

I move forward.

Encouragement is so important. How can you encourage someone today?

TODAY marks the official first day of Writers Unite, a writing revolution I am leading during the month of October. Why am I doing this? Because I need encouragement. And I bet you do too.

Would you like to focus on the writing that matters and receive encouragement during the process? What could happen if we UNITE together as Writers just for one month? I think we can and will accomplish some great things together.

Please read here or just fire me an email for more details! jim@unknownjim.com

Jim, this post resonates with me–I fight daily the demon of “suck”–my work sucks, I’ll never amount to anything, this work will never be done.

So very grateful for the connections I’ve made that are helping me confront this BS, and resist the resistance.

    Thanks for doing this, Jim!

You bet Chad! So glad I’m not alone Chad and this post resonates you. Thank you so much for the comment buddy.

Agreed. Finding people that share the same thoughts as I do has been a huge help in finding where I need to be going.

Makes such a difference doesn’t it!

The simplest act of kindness can encourage others. Another reason to be a positive person to those you come in contact with.

PS – that is a scary photo.
PPS – good luck with Writers Unite

Ah! You read my mind. Sometimes the most simple (positive) interaction with someone makes my day. Thanks for making mine today, Jim!

    GO WRITERS!

    Jim, you don’t suck.
You’re remarkable. I want to join
Writers Unite, and I did send you an email days ago.

I almost wrote about encouragement today. I’m glad I didn’t. People would have thought we sit around in real life eating Culver’s and cookies… wouldn’t that be the life?

    • http://unknownjim.com/ Jim Woods

hahaha that’s funny. Very, very funny!

I identify with this post so much. In fact, it mirrors what I posted on my blog today. It’s been a real rough month for me. I’m going to do my best to be an encourager today, despite all of that.

Thanks so much Kevin. We all have ROUGH times-it’s just a matter of whether or not we admit it. I hope I can encourage you and help you. I’m doing what I can so far….have a good one!

Having everything suck can be good, can create tension and conflict necessary for change (which is integral to every story).

But even better is receiving encouragement when you are going through that conflict. It really is a clarifying process for you and those around you. I’m working on a post about encouragement called “Being a Titus with your Words” to dig deeper on this.

That’s a GREAT point Cole. Didn’t even think about that! Can’t wait to read your post. Love your poetry Cole. I really hope you will keep doing it!
