Last Words For My Daughter

I screwed up.

I should have told you I love you more.

Instead of saying it a million times, I should have said it a billion times.

I tried my best to always show my love, but I’ve fallen short so many times.

Please know I treasured every moment with you.

Even when you screwed up.

We are not all that different.

I just KNOW you will do so much more than I ever did.

Do NOT take no for an answer when you really want something.

Life is tough and it will knock you down.

You will fall on your face; so much you’ll think that bruises are your normal skin tone.

Keep getting up.

Don’t give in.

Keep getting up.

Find what you love and use it to help others.

That’s all I can tell you to do with your life.

It’s not about you..it’s about how you help others.

It’s alright to not have the answers.

It’s alright to be scared.

It’s alright to cry.

Pursue what you love with passion and you will live.

Please learn from my mistakes.

If you just go through the motions, you are really not alive.

Those are my words to you.

You’re daughter is so Blessed to have you in her life to guide her. Your words are true for anyone at any age. The beauty is that children are resilient and very forgiving. So though you may be a bit regretful about not having told her enough that you love her….you have awoken to it now, and now is what matters.
Blessings to you and your family!

Jim, this is gorgeous. You could have also titled it “Letter to Humanity,” and it would have worked because we’re all longing to hear those words. But this brought tears to my eyes. Probably because my baby sister is turning seven tomorrow, and this is everything I want her to know. Printing this one out :)

Wow, thanks so much. I didn’t think of Letter to Humanity, that would have been great if I wasn’t so focused on a certain 2 year old :)
